Abstract
Due to the increasing elderly population and the subsequent increase in their need for medication and more referrals to the pharmacy, this study was conducted to investigate the Iranian hospital pharmacies in terms of age-friendliness criteria. This was a cross-sectional study conducted in 2017. The study population included 3 metropolitan hospital pharmacies selected through clustered sampling, and all their 67 pharmacies were included by census. Data collection tool was a reliable researcher-made checklist (t = 0.85, α = 0.9) Data analysis was performed using Kruskal–Wallis test and Mann–Whitney test through SPSS version 24. The results in these three cities showed that only two pharmacies were in a high level of age-friendly. The relationship between type of pharmacy and the final score of age-friendly situation in these cities showed no significant relationship. There was no significant relationship among the average of the final score of the age-friendly situation in three studied cities. Due to the increasing elderly population and the aging society, readiness of Iranian hospital pharmacies to provide services to the elderly will be one of the most challenging issues in the long term. With proper legislation and policies on health-care systems, especially pharmacies, physical and psychological problems in elderly can be reduced in the future. Furthermore, with advancing toward age-friendly pharmacies, the community can be empower and become ready encountering elderly problems.

The Effect of Glucomannan Supplementation on Lipid Profile in Adults

Abstract
Background: Glucomannan has been studied for various health benefits, but its effects on lipid profile in adults are not well understood. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the impact of glucomannan supplementation on serum/plasma levels of total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), Apo B1, Apo A1, APO-B/ A1 ratio, and LDL-C/ HDL-C in adults.
Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across Scopus, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from inception to June 2024 to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing glucomannan supplementation on lipid profile in adults. Data were extracted and analyzed using random effects model to determine the standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for each biomarker.
Results: Glucomannan supplementation significantly decreased TC (SMD: -3.299; 95% CI: -4.955, -1.664, P < 0.001; I 2 = 95.41%, P-heterogeneity < 0.001), LDL-C (SMD: -2.993; 95% CI: -4.958, -1.028; P = 0.006; I 2 = 95.49%, P-heterogeneity < 0.001), and Apo B1 (SMD: -2.2; 95% CI: -3.58, -0.82; P = 0.01). However, glucomannan did not alter the levels of TG (SMD: -0.119; 95% CI: -1.076, 0.837, P = 0.789; I 2 = 91.63%, P-heterogeneity < 0.001), Apo A1 (SMD: -0.48; 95% CI: -6.27, 5.32; P = 0.76), APO-B/ A1 ratio (SMD: -1.15; 95% CI: -2.91, 0.61; P = 0.11), and LDL-C/ HDL-C ratio (SMD: -2.2; 95% CI: -7.28, 2.87; P = 0.2).
Conclusions: Glucomannan supplementation has a beneficial effect on the level of TC and LDL-C.

زمینه: کره گی به طور سنتی به دلیل فواید سلامتی آن مورد استفاده قرار گرفته است، اما نقش آن در سلامت استخوان و مفاصل هنوز تحت بررسی علمی قرار دارد. این مقاله مکانیسمهای بیولوژیکی مختلفی را که از طریق آنها کره گی ممکن است به حمایت از استخوان و مفاصل کمک کند، بررسی میکند.
روشها: این مطالعه مقالات علمی و مطالعات بالینی موجود را که تأثیر کره گی بر واکنشهای التهابی، جذب مواد مغذی و فعالیت آنزیمی مرتبط با سلامت استخوان را ارزیابی میکنند، بررسی میکند.
نتایج: یافتهها نشان میدهند که کره گی دارای خواص ضد التهابی است که به کاهش التهاب مفاصل کمک میکند. علاوه بر این، جذب مواد مغذی را تقویت کرده و از ساختار و عملکرد استخوانها حمایت میکند. این مطالعه همچنین اثرات ترمیمی کره گی بر آسیبهای بافتی را برجسته میکند.
نتیجهگیری: مصرف کره گی ممکن است مزایای قابل توجهی برای سلامت استخوان و مفاصل داشته باشد، از جمله کاهش التهاب و بهبود دسترسی زیستی مواد مغذی.
Abstract
Background: Ghee has been traditionally used for its health benefits, but its role in bone and joint health is still under scientific investigation. This article explores the various biological mechanisms by which ghee may contribute to bone and joint support.
Methods: The study reviews existing literature and clinical studies evaluating the impact of ghee on inflammatory responses, nutrient absorption, and enzymatic activity related to bone health.
Results: The findings suggest that ghee possesses anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce joint inflammation. Additionally, it enhances nutrient absorption, supporting bone structure and function. The study also highlights ghee’s reparative effects on tissue damage.
Conclusions: Ghee supplementation may offer significant benefits for bone and joint health by reducing inflammation and improving nutrient bioavailability.
